Malaysia Bound

Ok, so this is the much delayed first post in my Malaysian blog which i'm hopefully goanna keep going for the next year. Charlie this one goes out to you.

After giving this life changing trip little or no thought in the upcoming months/weeks i found myself at Heathrow check in, cameras socks and anti malaria tablets pouring from every orifice and no idea what the hell i was doing. At some point after saying goodbye to my parents for the next 12 months my mum ran up and took this photo, featuring an abomination of a hip popping manouver by myself but otherwise capturing a pretty cheerful beginning to what's probably going to be the biggest year of my life to date.

Cutting the 17 hour or so journey time short where i gorged myself in second rate cinema and complementary G&T's I found myself dazed and confused by the wall of heat that faced me as I exited the terminal. Somehow reaching a coach we made it to the University of Malaysia, grabbed our keys and sat through a introductory meeting where i was soon to learn my first lesson: that few people in this country speak at any kind of audible level. Finally i collapsed into bed and descended into a jet lag fuelled coma.

By the time i woke up and appreciated i was at the other side of the world, away from almost all my friends and all my family, this view certainly helped to soften the blow. Especially considering the prison cell like rooms that were going to be my home for the next week (pics to follow)

  1. Yo G - Did you write this at four in the morning or are the time zones messed up? Also, I hear you had a slight problem with customs?

    1. Hmm weird, strange to think you will probably be waking up pretty soon. How's working life?

Hatfield isn't the most exiting place in the world... Job is good though.
